Défloré(e)s series

This body of work translates visually, with dried petals and jewelry, the stories individual viewers wrote about loosing their virginity during the exhibition Défloré(e)s: Cornered, an installation created for the group show "Sixteen memos for the next millennium".

The ensemble of works speak to the notion of consent while revealing coexisting contradictions such as cheap versus precious, forced vs chosen, attraction vs repulsion, pain versus pleasure and reality versus expectations... The tension created is inherent to the exciting and/or frightening moment when one becomes sexually active. The series is building up to an immersing installation, inciting the viewer to recall their own experience, to consider others experiences and to invite empathy.

I use flowers as a multi-sensorial medium that reconnects us to nature and to underused senses such as smell and touch. They are a potent symbol of femininity displaying both fragility and resilience. Reference to the Baroque movement in some of the pieces questions the exponentially growing hegemony of vision as the primary sense in our culture.
