Eyes Of My Skin I
A youth’s bust, covered with treated petals is placed in front of a very fast animation, itself framed by a Baroque explosion of beads and mirrors.
The installation questions the alienating and growing hegemony of vision in our Western culture, since the Italian Renaissance and the advent of the perspectival representation. The Finnish architect Juhani Pallasmaa parallels this evolution with “… the gradually increasing separation of the self and the world; vision separates us from the world; whereas the other senses unite us with it.”
The installation was part of the group show “I__America and America__Me” at SVA Flatiron Gallery in NYC in Oct-Nov. 2019.
